OUR SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT
Our work shapes behaviors.
That's not neutral — and we don't pretend it is.
Branding built on empathy and psychology is powerful. The same tools that help a brand earn genuine trust can be used to exploit, mislead, or accelerate harm.
We're aware of that. It's why we don't take every brief that comes in.
We take sustainability and social responsibility very seriously. Both are embedded in who we work with, how we work, and what we refuse to do.
We're selective about clients. We don't work with brands whose practices conflict with our values — in environmental impact, labour standards, or the way they treat the people they sell to. This isn't a policy. It's a standing decision we make at the start of every new conversation.
We don't build misleading brands. Purpose-washing is among the most commercially damaging things a brand can do, both to its audience and eventually to itself. We vet all sustainability and ethical claims rigorously and take necessary actions to ensure brands are built truly ethically, even if it means cancelling a contract.
We work remotely and only attend meetings in person if it’s necessary. A fully remote studio means no office, no unnecessary commuting, no physical footprint beyond the work itself. We offset 120% of our Scope 1–3 emissions through verified projects via Ecologi.
We prioritise longevity over volume. Fewer, longer, deeper engagements mean less waste — of time, resources, electricity and creative thinking. This is a commercial choice as much as an ethical one.
We love working with purpose-driven brands. Some of our most meaningful work has been with social enterprises and businesses that exist to create genuine impact. We also provide pro bono support to sustainable non-profits via Connected Voice and have a dedicated pro bono scheme for trans women entrepreneurs in the UK.
We pay fairly. We're an accredited Living Wage employer. Every team member and contractor is paid at or above the real Living Wage.
The brands we build for — and the ones we don't.
We're not the right studio for every brand — and we’re not trying to be.
We don't work with brands whose business model relies on exploitation, deception, or environmental harm, regardless of how interesting the project is or how large the budget. End of discussion.
The brands we're most energised by are building something genuinely better: better products to existing problems, championing better practices, or are looking to build deeper relationships with all of their stakeholders. We don't require perfection from our clients, but we do require honesty and a clear intent to improve.
If you're a purpose-driven brand looking for a branding studio that understands how to communicate impact without overdoing it, we'd love to hear from you.
Who we are as a team
The majority of our team is neurodivergent. Several have disabilities. Currently, we are an all-women team, and we actively prioritise hiring from communities that are routinely overlooked elsewhere in the industry — including people of colour, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with disabilities.
We don’t hire from diverse backgrounds to tick boxes in some HR quota; we genuinenly think hiring from diverse backgrounds makes our work better. Understanding how different people think, experience the world, and make decisions is incredibly valuable in our line of work.
We're an accredited Disability Confident employer, and are currently on track earning a B Corp certification.
Where we're heading.
Besides being committed to operating responsibly, we’re also building something: empty office buildings don't have to stay empty.
Ainoa is developing a Co-Living & Working Hub: a profit distribution programme that invests in unused commercial buildings and converts them into affordable housing, workspace for sustainable businesses, and space for non-profits, all within a single community.
The model is simple: bring people together, reduce what gets wasted, and create more opportunities for those who need it most. In our vision, buildings are renovated rather than demolished, materials are chosen for longevity and low environmental impact, energy comes from solar and water is recycled through shared community gardens. The aim is infrastructure that genuinely lasts.
We believe communities thrive when they're mixed — when residents, businesses, and organisations share the same space and invest in the same place. That's the thinking underneath the architecture.
We're currently focused on Portugal for our pilot, where EU funding and grants make the model most viable to launch well. We're dedicating 50% of Ainoa's profits to the programme and targeting a pilot by 2028.
We're looking for partners. If you work in property, construction, sustainable development, social enterprise, or impact investment — and our vision resonates — we'd like to hear from you. Reach out via the contact form on our Contact page.
Want to be part of this?
The most direct way to support what Ainoa is building is to work with us. Every project funds the studio, the team, and the programmes on this page. If you're a brand ready to invest in a strategy and identity that's built on a genuine understanding.
If that's not you right now, there are other ways to support us:
Refer a brand. If you know a founder or team who needs this kind of thinking, an introduction costs you nothing and means a great deal to us. Our partners programme pays commission for referrals that become projects.
Partner with us on the Hub. If you work in property, development, social enterprise, or impact investment and want to be involved in the co-living programme, get in touch via our contact form.
